Dezeen Awards Emerging Architects 2019: Edition Office
Australia Architecture News - Nov 1, 2019 - 12:14 1977 views
Amongst the 17 shortlisted studios, Australian studio Edition Office has been dubbed the Best Emerging Architecture Studio at the 2019 Dezeen Awards. Selections were based on evidence of strong vision and achievement, business success, client satisfaction and positive impact. The studio's work has been described as "rigorous exploration of material and form as a creative direction" by the architecture master jury.
The duo, Aaron Roberts and Kim Bridgland, founded Edition Office in 2016 and have achieved more than most studios in a short matter of time. Their strong sense of story and narrative sees a project from conception to hand crafted models and finally to sculptural marvels. Needless to say, the pair have produced an impressive string of projects and have the awards to show for them. Other accolades Edition Office has swept up in recent months are Emerging Architecture Practice in Houses Awards and the Emerging Designer of The Year in The Design Files Awards.
One of the more notable projects that the public have seen plastered on architecture magazines and websites is the Hawthorn House. Situated in a suburban area, surrounded by old trees the brief of the project was for a solid, long lasting building which would age gracefully. The residential project showcases two pavilions with individual proportions and personality, wrapped in raw arched concrete walls with a mix of glazed panels and timber accents.
As a member of an audience at their talk in Hobart, I was immedicately captured by the intricacies of a relatively constricted site and achieving a sense of privacy with neighbouring houses. Needless to say there are countless other impressive projects to be looked at but for now, we will be keeping an eye and ear on Edition Office's progress.
