Different hues of pinks, yellow colors, protruding windows and a perfect combination of solid-void relationships are all mixed in this toy-like private residence in the Sonoran Desert of Mexico

Envisioned by Moscow-based architect Davit Jilavyan and designer and visualizer Mary Jilavyan, the house - called Sonora House - was commissioned by a Mexican client to design a family residence with a minimal geometry but bold finishes and strong outer visual appearance.

Instead of completely trying to invent new kind of house, the team tried create a harmonious atmosphere for the house that plays with colors, form and punctuated windows. According to the architects, the result is a pastel-colored house but minimalistic in form which can be adapted to the existing landscape.

"We didn’t want to invent something new, we wanted to harmoniously combine the color and shape," said the architects. "We thought that the house should be adapted to the surrounding environment."

Resembling a kid's toy lost in the desert, the irregular system of windows is introduced to take the light from different windows of the rooms as part of the structure. Being a very strong in expressionism, different color paints explode the house at night which save it from its miniature appearance.

While its pitched roof unifying the house, it seems that the house can be arranged in different programs through its verticality. Although the design process of the house were suspended, the architects said: "we were passionate about the idea of this concept, so we completed it."
