A refreshingly exclusive weekend home designed away from the city of bustle - By Director & Principal Designer Amit Porwal. Contrasting the minimalist motto, design blends with the luxury of this space. It’s amazing to be able to craft something unique each time.
Low cost, no maintenance with more comfort and luxury spaciousness. This would be the most appropriate description of a second home.
Clients invest in second homes which are huge, close to nature and facilitate as a get away. They want the house to be luxurious, comfortable, fitting to have friends and family over but at the same time easy to maintain and with cost effective interiors as it is utilized occasionally.
As interior designers our objective is to provide a low cost and maintenance solution to build a plush, recreational getaway.
To achieve this, we follow a directive.
1) Execute less civil work on the site and adapt the site as it is. This is a great cost saving method as civil work usually adds to a lot of the budgeting and working with and around what’s present is very effective.
2) A continuation to that is to utilize the amenities present in the structure and not changing them around brining in extra plumbing, civil work.
3) A very essential rule is to bring into play nature and its elements and use nature as the canvas and theme for the design as well. Clients want to experience and be closer to nature while relaxing and rejuvenating. Spaces are designed to deploy as much natural light and air as possible.
4) Another essential we keep in mind is to design spaces suitable for social entertainment for huge groups. We look at focusing on this factor and design engaging spaces such as home theatres, luxe bars, lounges, game rooms, etc.
We used wooden flooring throughout the house to bring in the warmth and also as it is a low maintenance solution.
An enthralling and natural feature we used were the bespoke wallpapers that were customized for the house. The graphics were made and printed on linen paper to be used as a scenic canvas in the drawing room and the master bedroom. It is a unique element that is so pleasing to the eyes and distinctive yet amalgamates the spaces.
Another important factor to plan well is the furniture selection. It needs to be minimalistic and clutter free but extremely cozy to serve both purposes of having open spaces available and be super snug and homey at the same time so that people can relax and lounge around for hours. Also furniture selected is in nude and muted tones to highlight quirky pieces of art chosen for the different rooms to make them more fun and exciting.
The main objective with second homes is to get creative within the present framework, use the huge structures to maintain open spaces and also add entertaining social spaces for leisure, designing them using natural elements to be warm, lavish and amusing.
It's all about maintaining the scale and look and making it cost-effective too.
