3D Hubs and DUS Architects partner to bring miniature 3D Print Canal House to life

3D Hubs (http://www.3dhubs.com), the world’s largest collaborative 3D printer network, today announced the creation of a miniature version of the world’s first 3D Print Canal House in collaboration with DUS Architects. Ten 3D Hubs communities joined forces to 3D print the 220 blocks needed to build the miniature canal house, which stands over five feet tall. Each of the blocks represents a full build for a 3D printer platform.

The miniature 3D Print Canal House is a replica of the life-size 3D Print Canal House designed by DUS Architects, which was recently viewed by U.S. President Barack Obama and is currently under construction in Amsterdam. The 3D Print Canal House links history with future innovations and researches how 3D printing techniques can offer solutions to housing questions worldwide. “The miniature 3D Print Canal House is special to us in many ways, as it is the first time one of our designs has been entirely digitally fabricated by a large community of makers without our physical presence,” said Martine de Wit, partner at DUS Architects. “3D printing can have huge implications for the way products are fabricated, and we are proud to be at the forefront of investigating what the implications of 3D printing are for the building industry.”

According to a recent report by the McKinsey Global Institute, “3D printing could generate economic impact of $230 billion to $550 billion per year by 2025, and the largest source of potential impact among sized applications would be from consumer uses, followed by direct manufacturing and the use of 3D printing to create tools and molds.”
