Gokhan Avcioglu will give a lecture at designjunction in London Design Festival on September 20

Gokhan Avcioglu, founder of GAD Architecture and GAD Foundation, will give a lecture at designjunction within scope of this year's London Design Festival which will kick off this Saturday, September 14 and be on view until September 22, 2019 in London. 

Avcioglu's lecture will be held on September 20, at 15:00 pm in Everyman Cinema, King's Cross, London and his lecture is titled "Design and data: ecology and evolution architecture in cities today".

This year designjunction launches a brand new talks programme at the Everyman Cinema in King's Cross. The space on Handyside Street is part of R7, the millennial pink 11-storey-high building built by east London firm Duggan Morris Architects and will play host to presentations.

Curated by design and architecture writer and commentator, Grant Gibson, the programme is set to challenge, provoke and engage with design society today, as well as tomorrow.

Gokhan Avcioglu, founder and design principle of GAD, has been a leader in developing computational design strategies for 21st century architecture. His talk at designjunction 2019 will focus on research and application of the formal, structural and knowledge based on role of data in architecture in our cities today.

Avcioglu's presentation will review his approach at GAD and research his GAD Foundation in line with the rapid changes occurring in our cities today. The task in architecture has come to a point where data and analysis of urban environments has become a critical step in the design and development of new forms and structures. 

Using examples from the architecture of GAD, he will focus on the impact of 21st century technology and knowledge in architecture with implications for the ecology of cities and their evolution.

In responding to this year’s theme Re(act), the two-day designjunction programme breaks the mould and opens up a discussion about what truly matters through a series of lively discussions. 

The diverse and considered programme includes debates and book clubs with a slew of the industry’s leading thinkers and expert voices including: renowned architect Nigel Coates, designer Sevil Peach, leading designers Sam Hecht and Kim Colin of London design studio Industrial Facility, Founder of 1882 Emily Johnson, product designer Matthew Hilton and University of Cambridge researcher, Helen Taylor.
