Politician and Writer Baskın Oran to give a lecture at Bodrum Architecture Library in Turkey

Politician and writer Baskın Oran will give a lecture on October 5 at the Bodrum Architecture Library, a library including over 10,000 books and 20,000 documents in the fields of architecture, history, art, urbanism, archeology, engineering - founded by WAC's Founder and President Prof. Suha Ozkan, Hon F AIA. 

Oran's lecture, titled "The Arrival of Electricity in Bodrum's Tourism and the Aya Nikola Church Events", is open to all participants and starts at 19:00 pm at the Bodrum Architecture Library, Bodrum, Turkey

Oran was born in 1945 in İzmir. He studied in Saint Joseph, Izmir Ataturk High School, AU Faculty of Political Sciences (Civil Service). In 1969, he became an international relations assistant at the same faculty. He completed his PhD in 1974. He completed his postdoctoral study on international minorities in Geneva (1974-75).

On November 6, 1982, he was dismissed by the Council of Higher Education. On the day he was reinstated by the Ankara Administrative Court on 20 July 1983, he was dismissed by the military administration of 12 September. For eight years, he worked as a foreign language teacher and editor of AnaBritannica. He returned to his duty in the SBF in October 1990 upon the decision of the General Assembly of the Council of State. He became Associate Professor in 1991 and professor in 1997.

In October 2004, as the author of the “Minority Rights and Cultural Rights Report" adopted by the Human Rights Advisory Board he was sued by the TCK Art. 216 and 301. He was released by the decision of the General Assembly of the Supreme Court under the law of 216 in 2008. The Minister of Justice did not allow the retrial from 301 (2009).

He retired early in 2006 from the department of International Relations. He did research and lectured in Oxford for three months. He writes in "Haftalık Agos" ve "Radikal". He continues her classes at Civil Service. He works mainly on nationalism and minorities.
