Officina Leonardo is a young design firm and works different types of projects mostly residential projects "natural science museum",is conceptual work was conceived to join the contest: “Natural city, berlin museum natural science, international ideas competition of architecture”.

The competition required to develop a concept for the museum of natural science in Berlin.

For such type of building we felt the "natural shape" as the best choice.

The wish to design a building reproducing the shape of some natural elements such as some kind of minerals, it had to meet with current construction techniques.

After careful research on new technologies, our attention was captured by a 3D printer of free forms of any size: d-shape (not scale models but elements in 1: 1 by an inorganic perfectly environmentally friendly component that turns  sand in solid rock). “What could not be done, can be done now”.

Starting then two inputs: play some natural conformation and the use of technology, the studio designed their museum."The infinitely small becames huge, grows into the invisible giant and you can walk into something you have never seen."

The project not only searches some technological approaches but also searches materiality to bring a definable form with the structural quality.People feel the owerhelming power of space with scale and form.
