Gehry’s Eisenhower Memorial Design nears the end except ’’funding’’

Today, buffeted by repeated setbacks over the past five years, the proposed memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower appears closer to becoming a tribute to a federal impasse than to the five-star World War II general and 34th president. On June 18, the United States Commission of Fine Arts approved a much-debated Frank Gehry design for the memorial. And on July 9 the National Capital Planning Commission is expected to give its final approval.

But the Senate and the House appropriation committees have provided no construction funds for the memorial in their 2016 budgets. And the House committee called for the whole process to be restarted and for the panel that oversees the project, the Eisenhower Memorial Commission, to be restaffed......Continue Reading
