Design intentions The implemenation of downtown arena in Albuquerque hopes to be a major catalyst for the revitalization of the area. However, large venues such as arenas may capture large audiences at specific times, they are often vacant when compared to usage of other building typologies. This design seeks to create an arena that is usable and most beneficial to the community. The arena becomes built into the ground, allowing for the roof structure to become an active public space and park at street level, which also creates an opportunity to naturally light and cool the building. It serves as a pedestrian entry to downtown via the newly established regional rail line and parking structures located across the railroad. A hotel + residential structure anchor historic route 66 and give the site a vertical presence.
