Design intentions
The village of Avsaralani (+1500m) is situated in an isolated mountain area 100km north of Kayseri in Central Turkey.
The Avsaralani Villa is a contemporary house, built using local materials and construction traditions common to the region. The building is executed with considerable craftmanship, which contributes to the buildings characteristic expression. The natural stone facades, solid wooden doors and window frames are inspired by the local houses in the Yozgat Province.
The villa is a composition of massive stone walls and volumes. The aged stones of the villa originate from demolished neighbouring houses. Although the house is integrated with the natural site through its materiality, it appears significantly different from the local architecture namely through its strong geometric form and full-height openings.
