THEME OF EXHIBITION: The main theme of Expo 2012 Yeosu, “The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities” is interpreted as the variety of the interaction between nature and the people living on the coastal regions of Turkey, the reflection of this interaction on the culture of regional public and, in total, on Turkish culture. In making this interpretation, the whole theme is determined from “rhythm and motion” point of view. “Rhythm and motion” is interpreted as both different speeds and rhythms of nature and interaction of people with this rhythm. Different cultures arise in the coastal regions of Turkey. The aim is to reveal these differences with rhythm and motion. Rhythm and motion are important determinants in the relation of modern man with the nature. From this point of view, especially in Black Sea Region, the nature and the culture of man coincide apparently. The rhythm of the sea, the waves, the violence of the weather, the rain, the movement of anchovy, which is the most consumed food of local people, in the fishing net are apparently reflected on the local dance and culture. These rhythms will be exhibited on the glass prisms via holograms. In the Aegean Sea Region, parallel to the ecological approaches that will shape the future, Slow City trend, whose first example in Turkey is Seferihisar in this region, is developed with rhythm and motion idea and reflected to the proposed design. Small scaled city settlements are the subjects of this approach. Today, cycle of the nature is changed via technology and this situation has several negative results. For example, growth of vegetables and fruits are speeded up by feeding them with hormones. Supporting bicycle and pedestrian circulation in the city, leaving agricultural production in its natural speed, etc… define Slow City trend. Rhythm and motion can be put forward differently with probable themes. The proposed ones here are examples within these probable themes. The important thing is putting forward the production types and the multi-relation between nature and man over rhythm and motion, presenting these to the visitors in an architectural space and with an exhibition experiment in the ways which they didnt have before, and in this way, leaving permanent traces in Expo 2012 Yeosu for Turkey, which has rich historical and cultural background, with a proper architectural and exhibitional approach. While the holograms in the exhibition present today and tomorrow, the surface below the interactive floor will present sea and underwater civilization history of Turkey. The whole space is designed to include themes written by different people. The themes point of view, rhythm and motion, glass prisms with variable widths, space with ramps, interactive surfaces and hologram use are defined in this proposed design. Theme can be defined in the process by different actors. The design is a fiction and a building, which can provide a substructure for all the proposed scenarios here. Content: Informatic transparent platform including digital text, slogans, graphics and logos according to the themes. BLACK SEA-Point of view : The rhythm and motion of nature and people. Content: Nature of Black Sea , anger of the sea and the rain, dance of the anchovy, horon dance of Black Sea people, the rhythm of the wooden ships, the harmony of the rhythm of nature and the rhythm of local people and of cultural variety. Media: Hologram Rhythm Scriptwriters: Musicians, directors, choreographers, dancers... Beat: Fast rhythm – Allegro. Music-Sound: Black Sea folk music, sound of waves... MARMARA SEA-Point of view: The rhythm and motion of nature and people. Content: Meeting of water and artistic production, dance of root paints on water, instant rhythms, transitions, waves, variety, mixing of the colors. Alternative Content: Glass Art Media: Hologram. Content: On the ecological life of coastal regions in terms of slow city approach, examples from Seferihisar, sunset, tranquility, transportation without the use of petrol, leaving natural food on their own growth cycle, waiting, the re-discovery of natural rhythm of nature and people. Content: The relationship that Caretta Carettas develop between coast and sea, establishing tiny houses for caretta egges in a culture of preservation, organizing night shifts for the Carettas and cleaning the beach for them. SPACE DESIGNER - Space designer is the designer of the flexible-systematic space of the exhibition. He/She offers comfortable and various circulation alternatives for the visitors. He/She elongates the entrance space linearly for probable queuing, he/she makes the visitor in the queue to interact with the water wall, and he/she prepares the visitor for the exhibition and creates curiosity. He/She brings the visitor to the upper level first and then connects to the ground floor through ramps. He/She provides a linear circulation route on the upper levels and a flexible circulation route on the ground flat floor. The whole space is settled on a large water pool. The visitors of the Expo can use the parapet wall, which surrounds the large pool that the building sits in, for sitting and resting. Space designer creates space for the exhibition. The basic exhibition elements of this space are transparent, glass, rectangular prisms. Ramps are located around these prisms. They define a linear circulation route which does not disturb continuity. During his/her tour, the visitor has a visual relation with the animated holograms located inside the glass prisms that are parallel to each other. The holograms reflect the relations between culture and nature in the coastal regions of Turkey. When he/she looks at the images of the holograms on different levels and different angles, the visitor creates perceptional relations that can change instantly in space. The prisms are the elements that have different widths and that present flexible exhibition spaces. Their width can be increased or decreased during the design period according to the exhibited images. The other exhibition element of this space is the exhibition wall with niches on the ground floor. Space designer creates space for production. The prisms provide space for exhibition on the upper levels and for workshops on the ground floor. The visitor finds himself/herself on the production space when the ramps come to an end. He/she experiences different spaces of production located inside the prisms on the ground floor. Space designer creates space for performances. The performance is not any more an activity peculiar to only professional performance artists, but it also becomes the activity of the visitors via interactive technologies. The visitor, while walking on the ground floor, feels as if he/she creates a physical relation with water on the glass surface. By the help of interactive projection technology, he/she guides the behavior of the glass-water by walking on the surface. He/She touches and feels the history reflected on the water. He/She can activate nature with the interactive water wall while entering the space; he/she can guide the elements of nature, water, leaves by touching with his/her hands. A separate space is also provided on the ground floor for professional performance shows. The video wall located in this space shows the performance to the visitors. Space designer adds perceptional variety to the exhibition according to the theme. The visitor gets different points of view on the rhythm of nature and man, the relation arising from these rhythms and sustainability of this relation. With these different points of view, he/she gives meaning to the relations between culture and nature on the coastal regions of Turkey. EXHIBITION DESIGNER - Exhibition designer is a team headed by exhibition consultants. It is composed of artists, choreographers, architects, graphic designer, cookers, lighting specialists, engineers, hologram specialists etc… Exhibition designer creates and manages choreographies on the movement and speed of holograms and their location and relations in space, with the consultancy of hologram technologies specialists. He/She prepares different rhythm scenarios. It is anticipated that, around 30 scenarios are to be prepared for the whole Expo period that are differentiated according to day, night, region, rhythm and relations with the coast. These independent scenarios can interact with each other according to the choreography. The visitor meets with a variable exhibition. It is anticipated that the holograms will be in motion-slow motion. The visitor can also interact with the exhibition according to the speed of the exhibited elements. VISITOR - Visitor is the one that has perceptional and experimental relation with the space. During his/her tour, he/she creates visual relations with animated hologram images on different levels and in different perspectives. When he/she focuses on the images in one of the prisms, he/she also feels different perceptional experiences with the other images on the backside prisms. He/She changes the surfaces he/she touches with interactive water walls and floors. While changing the observed, he/she diversifies his/her visual experience. He/She adds his/her interpretations in the exhibition content and becomes a part of the exhibition. He/She becomes a participant in the production spaces, presentation spaces and workshops.
