Since architecture first and foremost organizes interactions in space, randomness has an important  part to play. One of the most fascinating essays attempting to demonstrate the significance of uncertainty in the built space was formulated by Michel Foucault in 1967, in a lecture given at a Tunis convention of architectural research. The essay was recently published under the title of “Heterotopy” - a sort of a plural form of ‘utopia’.
