The heavily ornamental styles of the 19th Century have been condemned by early modernists and their follovers in favor of simple, geometric forms. Le Corbusier formulated Purism as a reaction to his master Perret. But ornament can also be defined much more broadly including various concerns beyond simply structural or utilitarian ones. Even structure can be conceived and articulated as ornament.
