Color perhaps was the most neglected aspect in the modernist approach to architectural design during the 20th Century. Especially the dogmatic inclination toward the use of natural materials in architectural theory caused an ignorance of the joy of the artistic use of color in architecture. It was only outsiders like Hundertwasser and Spoerry who considered color as an essential dimension in the design of architectural forms and spaces.
