The nature of consumerism defines a dimension for today's architecture. Consumerism transformed the built environment to create public gathering spaces that actually attract large numbers of people. But there might be ways for architecture to co-opt consumerism.An architect’s role should be to resist the loss of identity and banalization in contemporary life caused by obsessions with consumerism.
