“Floating Street Hawkers’ Centers” {FSHC}
&
the River Front Nodes {FRN}.
Antonio Ismael March 25, 2007
A. Background:
Related to redeveloping the City of Samarinda, there was a need to rethink of
resolving the informal sector Street Hawkers sprawling thruout the city.
One idea is to enchance the the City as a Riverfront City. This strategy then can
as well include the Street Hawkers to create a lively city and as well as solving the
“Kaki Lima” problem.
B. The Proposed Solution:
Revitalization of the City’s River banks by adding “Street hawkers Centers” {SHC} at
certain intervals along the river. When most of the side development of the roads are
already “taken” , then the simplest way of obtaining “land” is on water.
2
Therefore it is just a matter of allowing for a “FLOATING LAND” by
considering the environmental issues. Hopefully by living closely to the River, the
citizen can be even more respectful towards the river.
