The scale of China's urbanization in recent years has often not addressed ongoing issues, such as the aging population, haze and dust storms, environmental pollution, homogeneity, unemployment and land loss. Formerly one of China's southern economic centres, Nanjing has fallen behind Shanghai and Suzhou. aLL Design were appointed to design a new world class city based on health care, combined with business and trade, creative culture and service, education, science and research, industry incubator, ecological living, leisure and tourism.

This master plan will form part of Nanjing's emerging city plan to become a sustainable 21st century city.
It blends these uses with the natural environment to form:

- An independent and
  automatic Smart City
  System
- A sustainable development
  Smart City System
- A self- sufficient Smart City
  System
- A lively Smart City System

Using the past to evolve the future by considering nature, health and well-being creates a place people want to go to and never leave. A place with different generations living in harmony with the old and the new. A hub that is connected by two lakes with a central water spine linking them together.

With society evolving it is becoming more apparent that we need to create places where people live to work and not work to live. Productivity increases when people are happy and fulfilled at home. By creating a place where people can live their life to the full, relax, interact and learn, and satisfy all of their needs in one place, we provide the framework for a truly sustainable society.
