Call for Submissions:PLAT-’’Frequency’’

PLAT Journal invites content for its forthcoming issue, Frequency.

Architecture is more than the accumulation of inert mass. Buildings embody, direct, store, and emit energy over time. We are calling the measure of these processes frequency.

To have frequency is to oscillate. The city of today is not produced by the accretion of layers of history. It is better characterized by periodic destruction and reconstruction—the wax tablet, not the palimpsest.

To frequent is to inhabit without dwelling, to occupy space with a light touch. Patterns of use are cyclical rather than fixed. The forthcoming issue of PLAT seeks work that addresses the periodic time scales of architecture.

PLAT Journal invites projects, images, essays, and proposals for the 4.5 issue, Frequency. While we welcome work of all shapes and sizes, preference will be given to short essays and graphic content. Longer text submissions will not be reviewed unless accompanied by an abstract of fewer than 250 words. Please send inquiries and submissions to [email protected] by December 19, 2014. Attachments must not exceed 4MB.

PLAT is an independent architectural journal curated and published by students at the Rice School of Architecture. PLAT 4.0: MASS, to be released December 2014, features Joseph Altschuler, Pier Vittorio Aureli, McLain Clutter, Greg Corso, David Dewane, Jordan Hicks, Lucia Jalon Oyarzun, Albert Pope, Joseph Scherer, Julia Sedlock, Erin Ruhl, Pyline Tangsuvanic, De Peter Yi, and Anthony Yue.
