WAF:Great Green Living - Discover Denmark

Danish architecture and design at world famous festival

Denmark will be strongly represented at this year’s World Architecture Festival in Singapore on 1-3 October. A new initiative will promote Denmark as a forerunner within sustainable architecture, city planning and design – and increase the network and potential for Danish companies within the sector.

When architects and designers from all over the world gather at World Architecture Festival in October, there will be a special Danish exhibition platform. The Danish Embassy in Singapore is arranging the first Danish promotional event ever to take place at the festival.

”There is an increasing demand and potential for Danish solutions in Singapore. And when the ASEAN Economic Community opens up in 2015, it will be easier for business services such as architecture to move freely within the whole South East Asian region,” confirms Berit Basse, Ambassador of Denmark to Singapore.

Design and Danish practices in the spotlight

The Danish platform consists of an exhibition stand for Danish design, giving passers-by an insight into Danish lifestyle through a display of furniture and innovative products under the title ”Welcome Home – Discover Danish Design”. The Embassy will also host a conference session where Danish architects will get top exposure through a panel debate and a series of individual presentations. This programme is marketed as an integral part of the festival agenda and is the only country-specific event at WAF.

Debate about green cities and the good life

The panel debate will focus on sustainable city planning and architecture under the heading: ”Great Green Living – Discover Denmark”. The debate is set to be about liveable cities and sustainable solutions that socially and environmentally contribute to making the world a better place and increasing the quality of life for citizens. The panelists will include examples from Danish and international projects.

The panel is represented by schmidt hammer lassen, AG5, ADEPT, 3XN, Gehl Architects, Atelier Dreiseitl/Ramboll og Realdania Foundation. The debate will be moderated by Group Director Larry Ng Lye Hock from Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority, building on the strong partnership between Denmark and Singapore within sustainable city management.

Danish practices nominated for award

Three Danish architect practices have already been shortlisted for a prestigious award at WAF: 3XN, ADEPT and BIG. In addition, BIG, 3XN and Realdania Foundation are present as speakers and judges, and the Danish presence is intensified by the platform organised by the Embassy, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by Danish companies in Singapore. The Embassy expects the initiative to strengthen the possibilities and the presence of Danish architect firms and companies on the Singaporean and South East Asian markets – and to highlight Denmark’s position on the international agenda for architecture and city development.
